“Neighborhood Leaders to National Heroes”
Riverside, Ca- The Riverside Police Department is taking National Night Out – an observance of Neighborhood Watch organizations – and expanding the idea to an unprecedented community recognition of those who look out for our well-being.
“Neighborhood Leaders to National Heroes” is celebration of all those whose vigilance helps protect our safety – from the neighborhood watch volunteers close to home to the police officers, sheriff’s deputies, state patrol and federal agents working where we live, and to the military services who serve to protect us around the world,” said RPD Community Services Group Lieutenant Tim Bacon.
This colorful public celebration will be held at the Riverside Municipal Airport, 6951 Flight Road, off Arlington Avenue, on Saturday, August 4, 2007, from 9 am to 5 pm. Featured guest speaker will be retired U.S. Army Col. Danny McKnight, whose exploits were the basis for the book and movie, “Black Hawk Down”).
Riverside’s celebration will be the “kickoff“ to several days of neighborhood-based events held in conjunction with or in support of the National Association of Town Watch’s National Night Out Against Crime – a nationwide public awareness and neighborhood organizing event, held this year on Tuesday, August 7, 2007.
