Riverside, Ca- On Friday, June 9, 2007, the Riverside Police Department conducted a checkpoint for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) at the intersection of University Avenue and Park Avenue. Several Volunteers and Explorers from the department were on hand to assist with the effort.
Between the hours of 6 PM and 12 midnight, more than 2460 vehicles drove through the checkpoint. There were two (2) subjects arrested for DUI, one-hundred-thirty-three (133) were cited for licensing, seatbelt and/or insurance violations and one-hundred-one (101) vehicles were impounded.

As the officer tried to gain control, the suspect bit the officer’s hand causing an injury. He was then taken into custody with the assistance of other officers in the immediate area. Angel Enrique Castaneda, 24, was charged with Felony Assault on a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest in a Violent Manner, and Public Intoxication. The officer was treated and released for his injury.
Additionally, several of the vehicles were also inspected to determine if they were illegally equipped for street racing and two (2) vehicles were cited for having illegal modifications to their engines.
