The Riverside Police Department has many exciting volunteer opportunities to engage and involve our community members. Click on one of the following positions for more information:

Administrative GroupsVolunteers are assigned to work inside a police facility. Duties such as data entry, answering phones, filing, and general office duties are samples of the types of duties performed. Ability to use Microsoft Office software is desirable. Training is assignment specific to the unit assigned.
- Citizen Patrol GroupsThis program utilizes citizen volunteers to assist in patrolling the city. It is divided into four units: Citizens On Patrol, Mounted Posse, Bike Patrol, and Mall Walkers. These units are used for directed patrol in specified areas, vacation checks, traffic control, extra patrol for major events and extra patrol for City mall areas. Successful completion of our training is required.
Certain physical requirements must be met for some positions within this classification.
- Special Detail VolunteersDuties include, but are not limited to, traffic control at fixed locations, DUI Checkpoints, 911 for Kids Program, station tours, the You Are Not Alone Program, OWE, and car seat fitting stations. Successful completion of the required training is mandatory and may require specialized certification. Volunteers also assist at weekend and evening community events throughout the City. duties at these events include, but are not limited to, set-up and break down of event booths, manning information tables, interacting with the community, and assisting with presentations. Job specific training is required.

Specialized VolunteersThese volunteers possess skills, training, and/or education in a specialized area. These proficiencies are gained a combination of work experience and formal education. Areas such as Chaplain, TSU, Traffic Reconstruction, and Range Assistant are very limited in availability.
