Become a CASA: Advocate for LGBTQ+ Youth in Need!

Event Information

10/19/2024 - 10:00am to 11:00am

Are you ready to make a meaningful difference in the lives of LGBTQ+ youth? Join us as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) and help ensure that every child feels supported and understood!

Why Your Advocacy Matters:
LGBTQ+ Youth experiencing Foster Care are overrepresented in the foster care system, with studies showing that they comprise about 20% of the youth in care, despite being only 5-10% of the general youth population.

Increased Vulnerability: These youth often face unique challenges, including discrimination, rejection from family and peers, and a higher risk of mental health issues such as depression and anxiety.

Need for Representation: Many LGBTQ+ youth in foster care report feeling unheard and misunderstood. As a CASA, you can be their voice, ensuring their needs and rights are prioritized in the court system.

What Does a CASA Do?
Advocate for Best Interests: You’ll work with social workers, legal teams, and other professionals to represent the unique needs of the youth.

Provide Support and Stability: Offer a consistent and caring presence, helping youth navigate the challenges they face in foster care and beyond.

Educate Others: Help raise awareness about the specific issues affecting LGBTQ+ youth, promoting inclusivity and understanding within the system.
