The Future is Black: Poetry, Afrofuturism, and Experimentation

Event Information

Inlandia Institute is proud to present, as part of its Blacklandia event series, “The Future is Black: Poetry, Afrofuturism, and Experimentation” with author Nikia Chaney, arts curator Lisa Henry, and Cassidy Parong.

When we join African American culture with technology and the future we get Afrofuturism, a genre shaped by an ideology of “Blackness” as it can be far, far in the future. In this discussion, Nikia Chaney, Lisa Henry, and Cassidy Parong will explore ideas of Afrofuturism as it relates to literature, poetry, and visual style. There will also be some special announcements about the return of shufpoetry.

And bring your afrocentric/futuristic/psychedelic/science fiction/outerspace/funk poems for the open mic starting at 3:00 PM!
