Journeying into the archive can be an illuminating process where we uncover previously unknown stories that help us better understand ourselves and the places we live. Archival research can also be a site where we encounter traumas of the past that can be difficult to hold. In this two-hour workshop, we’ll acknowledge the potential of vicarious trauma in research and discuss strategies for self-care. Drawing on a mix of somatic and artistic practices, participants will leave with a better understanding of how to support themselves in their archival work.
During this workshop, participants will create mini-zines related to their archival research interests. You're encouraged to bring any photos, writing, or other materials relevant to your project (photocopies are encouraged if you do not wish to use primary materials).
