Angelov Farooq is proudly raised locally in the County of Riverside. He is a Partner with the Sustainable Development company, The Omnius Group and was a Founding Board Member for the US Green Building Council – Inland Empire chapter. Angelov is the Founding Director of UC Riverside Center for Economic Development and Innovation and serves on faculty at the UCR Graduate School of Business. In 2013, Angelov was appointed by Governor Jerry Brown on the California Workforce Development Board. In 2015, he was appointed by California’s Chief Financial Officer, Controller Betty Yee, on her Council of Economic Advisors to help shape comprehensive tax reform. Angelov was also elected in 2015 to serve on the Riverside Unified School Board, which governs 48 public schools with an operating budget exceeding $400 million. Angelov earned a Bachelor Degree from UC Berkeley, an Executive Master and Doctorate of Policy, Planning and Development degrees from the University of Southern California.  |  | ABSTRACT: | Dr. Angelov Farooq will share intimate insights on his leadership approach towards addressing complex public challenges by effectively harnessing networks from government, business and nonprofit sectors. Each of the four public benefit projects explored will be introduced for about fifteen minutes followed by questions from the audience. The project topics include: |  | * Fostering innovation ecosystem – Founding Board of Directors to establish ExCITE technology incubator in downtown Riverside. |  | * Advancing equity to address achievement gap in public education - Collaborating with Coalition for Restorative Schools, NAACP and Children’s Defense Fund to convene at the White House with Senior Officials from President Obama to address the school to prison pipeline. |  | * Neighborhood revitalization during the Great Recession – Based on doctoral dissertation that became the subject of a local PBS documentary and stabilized over 1,000 foreclosures across the country. |  | * Founding the UCR Center for Economic Development and Innovation – Federal, state and regional initiatives to attract jobs and investment to Inland Southern California. |  | Cost: Free
