The Dream Colony: A Life in Art by Walter Hopps with Deborah Treisman and Anne Doran

Biographies, Memoirs

At twenty four, Walter Hopps founded his first gallery, the Ferus Gallery, in L.A. with then-unknown artist Edward Kienholz. They spotlighted a new generation of West Coast artists and were the first to exhibit Andy Warhol’s Campbell’s Soup Cans. Throughout his art career, Hopps developed a reputation as a gifted museum man, an eccentric who was always late. The Dream Colonyis a personal and enlightening account of Hopps’s life and of some of the greatest artist minds of the twentieth century.

A Piece of the World: A Novel by Christina Baker Kline

Literature, Fiction

Alfonse Carducci was a literary giant who lived his life to excess—lovers, alcohol, parties, and literary rivalries. To spend the remainder of his days, he’s come to the Bar Harbor Home for the Elderly. Among kindred spirits, only at the end of his life does he comprehend the price of appeasing every desire and the consequences of forsaking love to pursue greatness, for Alfonse has an unshakeable case of writer’s block that distresses him much more than his precarious health.
