(Recent updates are posted at the top of the Current Situation)

On Tuesday, August 18th, 2024, at 11:58 a.m., The City of Riverside Fire Department responded a first alarm vegetation fire assignment to the 1300 Block of East Alessandro Blvd to the front a new warehouse being constructed.  Firefighters arrived on scene to a ½ acre vegetation fire with workers attempting to extinguish the fire with a water truck.  An additional alarm was requested which included two more additional engines and a brush truck.  Firefighters established a fire perimeter control line and mopped up the fire.  The total acreage was mapped at 1.2 acres.

An arson investigator and prevention officer responded to the incident.  The arson investigator performed the investigation with the prevention officer reviewing code violations on the construction site.  The investigator determined the cause of the fire was workers cutting rebar with a rotary saw next to dry brush, but accidental in nature.  The prevention officer issued a citation.

There were no firefighter injuries or civilian injuries.  The incident lasted just over two hours with a total of 26 personnel, 23 firefighters, one chief officer and two overhead personnel.
