Current Situation
On Sunday, September 8, 2024, at 5:42 p.m., The City of Riverside Fire Department responded a water rescue assignment for reports of two adults and an infant trapped on a sand bar within the Santa Ana River Bottom adjacent to Anza Narrows Martha McClean Park. Due to the thunderstorms and rain in our local foothills, the river swelled cutting of the couple with their infant child. There were approximately 20 to 30 persons recreating within the river bottom at the time of the incident.
The City of Riverside Fire Department Water Rescue Personnel had to enter the water using a rescue boat to make access to the trapped couple with infant. RSO inserted a rescuer as well onto the sandbar and together RSO Rescuer and City Firefighters walked the two adults and infant to the City of Jurupa Valley without having to cross the river.
The incident was in Riverside County just outside of city limits.
