Current Situation
On Sunday November 21, 2021 at 11:28 a.m., the City of Riverside Fire Department responded a 1st alarm vegetation fire assignment to the area of Tyler X Jurupa along with reports of a vehicle accident off road in a ditch. The first due engine company responding observed a large column of smoke in a strong Santa Ana Wind event and requested a second alarm. The first due engine company arrived and assesses several homes being threatened by the fire. The fire was burning in a area of approximately 17 acres along with 4’ of mulch.
The fire was started by a vehicle that was being driven off road that had attempted to make a turn around in the mulch pile. The three occupants of the vehicle were able to escape the vehicle and were non-injured. RPD conducted the investigation and assisted the individuals out of the area to a safety zone.
A large mutual aid request was made for helicopters, fix wing aircraft, dozer and brush trucks to assist with the fire. CAL-Fire / Riverside County, Corona, Hemet, Murrieta and San Bernardino County Fire Department assisted with Master Mutual Aid request.
