    Current Situation

(Recent updates are posted at the top of the Current Situation)

On Thursday July 30, 2020 at 4:59 p.m., The City of Riverside Fire Department responded a first alarm vegetation fire assignment to the location of Mission Inn Ave X Santa Ana River for a single report of a vegetation fire.  Firefighters arrived on scene in the area and were unable to locate.  The reporting party remained on scene and was able to provide directions to a smoldering palm tree fire in the middle of the Old Boy Scout Camp next to a homeless camp.  Firefighters had a difficult time making access due to the heavy vegetation and limited vehicle access.  A second alarm was requested and dispatched.  The fire grew to one acre with the onshore winds and was held to one acre.

While crews were mopping up the fire, a new vegetation fire started approximately 200 yards away in the middle of the Old Boy Scout Camp which was unrelated to the first fire.  Resources from the first fire were re-assigned to the second fire.  The second fire as held to a ¼ acre.   There were several homeless evacuating the area upon our arrival.  There were no homeless injuries or firefighter injuries.

The fire cause is undetermined after investigation for both fires.
