    Current Situation

(Recent updates are posted at the top of the Current Situation)

At 1129 the City of Riverside Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 6786 Brockton Avenue.  The first arriving unit found heavy smoke coming from the roof of a multi unit commercial strip mall.  Fire attack was initiated in conjunction with vertical ventilation.  Three additional engine companies and a second truck company were requested along with 1 AMR ambulance.  Upon entry, firefighters found significant smoke and flames as the suite was occupied by a dry cleaning business.  A primary search of the affected suites was completed and the fire was brought under control at 1206.

Two fire investigators responded and determined that the cause of the fire was unintentional, caused by open flames being used to re-roof the building.  The fire spread through the attic into the neighboring business, but crews were able to minimize the damage and contain it mainly to the business of origin.  Two civilians were treated on scene for minor injuries and refused transport to the hospital.  The damage was estimated at $225,000 with a save of $975,000.  There were no firefighter injuries.
