Current Situation
On Saturday July 4, 2020 at 9:07 p.m., The City of Riverside Fire Department responded a response of two engine companies and a chief officer to the California X Canterbury for reports of six palm trees on fire. Firefighters arrived to find several trees on fire to the rear of a residential back yard threatening four immediate residential houses. The assignment was upgraded to a first alarm structure fire assignment. Firefighters made an aggressive fire attack and contained the fire to the backyard. One outbuilding was destroyed along with severe damage to the backyard fences.
The estimated loss was at $50,000 with a save of $1.2 million. There was no damage to the primary residences and no civilian or firefighter injuries. A total of 21 firefighters and one chief officer responded to the incident. It was reported prior to the fire numerous fireworks were being launched in the immediate vicinity. The cause of the fire was undetermined after investigation.
