    Current Situation

(Recent updates are posted at the top of the Current Situation)

On Wednesday July 15, 2020 at 7:02 p.m., The City of Riverside Fire Department responded two engine companies to the Box Springs Interchange at the Eastbound 60 to the Southbound 215 Freeway for reports of multiple vegetation fires in the Gore points of the interchange.  Riverside County CAL-Fire also sent a vegetation fire response due the location being a boundary call.  Riverside City Firefighters arrived to find multiple spot fires along the roadway with smoke laying across the freeway.  Riverside City upgraded the alarm to three alarms.  The transition road was closed.  A total of 12 engine companies, one water tender and two chief officers responded.

The fire was held and contained to three Gore points within the interchange for a total of three acres.  The wooden posts to a guard rail were damaged by the fire and CAL-Trans was notified.  There were no firefighter injuries.  The cause of the fire was undetermined after investigation.
