Current Situation
The City of Riverside Fire Department responded to a report of fire in a church at 3340 Iowa Avenue at The Church of Riverside. The 1st due Engine Company found a fire burning in an exterior cabinet of the church. Riverside City Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the fire preventing it from extending into the main sanctuary of the church. Smoke did enter the church from a broken window above the cabinet. Firefighters used positive pressure fans to remove the smoke from the inside of the church building. Fire damage was limited to the exterior cabinet, with slight smoke damage in the main sanctuary. The cause of the fire is suspicious in nature and is under investigation by The City of Riverside Fire Department’s Arson Investigation Unit. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries during the incident.
