    Current Situation

(Recent updates are posted at the top of the Current Situation)

On Tuesday January 25, 2022, at 6:39 a.m., The City of Riverside Fire Department responded a first alarm structure fire to 4307 Main Street the Closed Mr. T’s Restaurant.  Firefighters arrived on scene to find the structure 50% involved in fire.  Firefighters attempted to extinguish the fire, however due to the structural integrity of the structure along with previous fire damage the fire became a defensive fire.  A primary search was conducted of the portions of the building that was not involved in fire and was determined there were no transients in the structure.  Due to the complexity of the incident, the incident was upgraded to a second alarm.

The fire was contained to the building with no damage to exposures.  Main Street and 13th were closed due to fireground operations.  A transient came back to the scene and interfered with firefighter operations.  RPD responded to the scene and detained the transient.  The transient was attempting to get back into the structure while it was on fire to retrieve his belongings.

RPD and city streets assisted with traffic control.

An arson investigator responded to the scene and conducted an investigation.  The cause will be undetermined after investigation.

The incident was turned over to Code Enforcement to work with the building owners on mitigating the risk of the structure to the general-public.

There were no firefighter or civilian injuries.
