Current Situation
The City of Riverside Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire in the 300 Block of Marlborough Avenue, but arrived to find an approximately 3-acre brush fire burning on the hillside to the rear of the address. Due to the potential, a second alarm was requested to fight the fire on 2 flanks. Riverside firefighters, assisted by 2 units from Cal fire attacked the fire with hose lays, and hand tools. The fire grew to about 10 acres before being placed under control. Control time took approximately 1 hour, with units remaining on scene for another 2 hours to fully contain and extinguish the fire. The fire started at the base of the mountain in a homeless encampment. The fire was likely started by a cooking or warming fire, but the exact cause could not be determined after investigation.
