(Recent updates are posted at the top of the Current Situation)

The City of Riverside Fire Department responded to a report of structure fire in the 2000 block of Marlborough. Upon arrival the first-in fire unit found a small single story duplex with smoke showing from the rear unit. Crews made an interior fire attack and found a victim at the back door trying to get out. They rescued the victim from harm and extinguished the fire in the main bedroom. The victim was treated and transported to a local hospital for further treatment. The fire was found in the mattress and surrounding clothes most likely caused by a cigarette. The victim advised she fell asleep while smoking in bed.

A second victim was treated at the scene and released with signing an AMA (Against Medical Advice). This patient tried to rescue the victim in the fire room.

Fire Investigators were notified regarding the fire injuries.

The owner was notified and authorized the release of his property to his son who lives in the front non-damage duplex.

Crews picked up their hose and cleared the scene.
