    Current Situation

(Recent updates are posted at the top of the Current Situation)

On Friday January 29, 2021 at 8:54 p.m., The City of Riverside Fire Department responded a first alarm assignment to the 4600 Block of Maxwell Ct. for reports of an apartment on fire on the third floor with a resident going back into the structure.  An AMR ambulance was dispatched to the incident due to the possibility of a trapped resident.  Firefighters arrived on scene to find a three-story apartment complex with heavy fire and smoke coming from the third floor.  A second alarm was requested.

Firefighters made an aggressive fire attack combined with a primary search and aggressive vertical ventilation to hold the fire to the apartment of origin.  Upon conclusion of the primary search, no residents were located in the apartment.  The Incident Commander met with the residents of the apartment complex and obtained that all residents were accounted for and safe.  The fire was confined to the apartment of origin with heavy damage to the roof, third and second floors of the apartment.

The loss is estimated at $50,000 contents, $200,000 and save of $1,000,000.  Most probable cause of the fire was a heat source from a defective chimney.  The area of origin was located within the void space around the chimney vent piping.

There were no civilian or firefighter injuries.  The property was secured.  There were three displaced adults and they refused Red Cross services.  A request for Code Enforcement was put in place to “Red-Tag” the apartment.  The property owner was contacted and given a briefing.
