Current Situation
The city of Riverside Fire Department responded to a report of a vegetation fire near the Carlson Dog Park at the base of Mt Rubidoux on the north side of Mt Rubidoux Park. Firefighters found about a quarter acre of vegetation burning at the base of the mountain, and quickly progressing up the slope. Riverside firefighters quickly attacked the flanks of the fire, stopping its forward progress at ½ acre. The fire was placed under control in about 15 minutes, with firefighters remaining on scene for an additional 30 minutes to mop-up and cut a defensive line around the fire. The cause of the fire was undetermined after investigation. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries during the incident.
