(Recent updates are posted at the top of the Current Situation)

The City of Riverside Fire Department responded a first alarm assignment to a reported structure fire in the 5300 block of Rochester Avenue. Based on reports coming from Riverside Dispatch, an additional engine company and an AMR ambulance were added to the response. Upon arrival, firefighters found a 1,400 square foot single family residence with fire coming from the back of the structure. Further investigation revealed a well-established attic fire in the back portion of the home. Riverside firefighters made an aggressive interior fire attack supported by a coordinated roof ventilation operation. Additional companies worked to move furniture and place salvage covers over belongings to prevent damage from smoke, fire and water. The fire was knocked down in about 20 minutes. There were four occupants in the home at the time of the fire, 3 were evaluated for smoke inhalation by Riverside firefighter paramedics with assistance from AMR. All three were evaluated and released.

Firefighters remained on scene for three hours salvaging belongings, and checking for hot spots. The occupants of the home were issued a SAVE card too assist them with incidentals. A total of 5 family members were displaced, but they were able to find shelter with other family in the area.
