    Current Situation

(Recent updates are posted at the top of the Current Situation)

On Monday, February 3, 2020 at 6:32 a.m., The City of Riverside Fire Department responded a first alarm structure fire response along with the Technical Rescue Team to the Sycamore Canyon Apartment complex located at 600 Central Ave.  Initial reports were of a large tree had fallen into an apartment, gas lines, water lines were broken and residents were trapped.  Firefighters arrived on scene and the complex to discover three fallen trees, one into an apartment.  There were no residents trapped, no structural collapse of an apartment and no gas lines were broken.

Two apartments were damaged, one pool gazebo was destroyed and one broken water line.  The broken water line was shut down.  All hazards were cordoned off with flagging.  RPD assisted with evacuation of residents and closure on one private road.  There were two displaced adults.  The apartment complex was working on re-locating the two displaced residents.  The apartment complex supervisor had their private tree aborists respond to the scene to mitigate the fallen trees.

There were no civilian or firefighter injuries.  Estimated damage is at $200,000.  A total of 26 firefighters, one chief officer and public information officer responded to the incident along with five Riverside Police Department Officers.  Riverside Public Utilities also responded to the incident to assist with the broken water pipe.
