    Update

    As of 5:00pm on 09/08/2019 the Sycamore Canyon Fire is now 100% contained.  Fire units will continue to monitor the area  over the next several days.  We ask citizens to continue to take caution within the burn area.

     

    The City of Riverside Fire Department responded to a reported vegetation fire in the area of the Sycamore Canyon Wilderness Park. First arriving units reported a large fire that quickly grew being slope driven and burning in light grass. The fire is currently at 250 acres. Working with Cal Fire under Mass Mutual Aid, 130 firefighters were assigned to structure protection and perimeter control. Due to the structure threat and hikers within the wilderness park area, two dozers, one air attack, three air tankers, and one helicopter responded under assistance by hire.


    A Third Alarm of city resources was established


    RPD assisted with tempory road closures and the notification of hikers in the wilderness park area


    A Safety Officer and PIO were assigned


    Fire Investigators responded and are currently working on a cause and origin


    The fire is now 75% contained with full containment expected by the evening of 09/08/19


    No structures were reported damaged


    No injuries were reported


    Citizens are asked to stay clear of the burn area until fire officials can ensure the area is safe to access
