Current Situation
The City of Riverside Fire Department responded to a report of a sheared fire hydrant in the 6700 block of Sycamore Canyon. Upon arrival, the first due Engine Company encountered a fire hydrant that had been sheared off by a tractor that was removing vegetation on the side of the roadway. The exposed fire main released a geyser of water that shot approximately 100 feet in the air. Riverside City Firefighters, with help from Riverside Police Department shut down both southbound lanes of Sycamore Canyon Boulevard due to the volume of water cascading down on the roadway. A truck company responded to the scene to assist Eastern Municipal Water District with shutting off the water main. Riverside Firefighters assisted EMWD with locating and shutting down the broken water main. Although the sheared hydrant released a tremendous amount of water onto the roadway, the location of the break was far enough away from businesses to pose any threat of flooding. Shortly after the water was shut down the street was opened back up.
