Current Situation
On 11/19/2022 at 0543 the City of Riverside Fire Department was requested to respond to Van Buren Blvd. and Clay Street by Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire for a mutual aid vegetation fire. First arriving units found 2-3 acres burning in the river bottom East of the Van Buren bridge behind the water treatment plant. As the fire was a mutual threat to both the City of Riverside and Jurupa Valley, unified command was established between the two agencies. Additional State and City resources were requested at that time. The fire was brought under control at 1000 hours, and full extinguishment took place later in the day. The fire was determined to be 100% in the City of Riverside, and mapped at 2.9 acres. There was no damage to city infrastructure and no injuries to firefighters or civilians. The cause of the fire was undetermined with human involvement after investigation as there are numerous homeless encampments located in the burn area.
