Current Situation
The City of Riverside Fire Department responded to initial reports of a tree fire, but that report was upgraded to a tree fire with lines down, and a vehicle on fire in the 1200 block of Spring Street at the Riverside, Highgrove border. With a visible column of smoke coming from the area of Highgrove and the Riverside City limits, two additional engine companies and an AMR unit were added to the response as well as a structure response from Cal Fire. The first due Riverside City Engine Company reported one single-family dwelling and one landscaping truck well involved in fire with power lines down on the ground. Due to the heavy involvement of the residence and the presence of downed power lines Riverside City Firefighters made a defensive attack on the structure. The next residence to the south became exposed by high heat, igniting a fire in the attic. Riverside Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack on this structure and were able to limit the damage to one room and part of the attic. The fire was determined to be located within the community of Highgrove, units from Cal Fire began arriving shortly after Riverside City began their attack on the fire. Both agencies worked together to prevent the fire from damaging any additional homes or property. Riverside City Firefighters remained on scene to assist Cal Fire and our neighbors in Highgrove for approximately three hours before clearing the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation by Cal Fire. A tree trimming company was in front of the residence trimming palm trees at the time of the fire. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries as a result of the fire.
