Current Situation
The City of Riverside Fire Department responded to a report of a vegetation fire near the solar farm at Rubidoux Trail, and the Santa Ana River bike path. The first due engine company reported approximately ¼ acre of grass and vegetation on fire to the south of the solar farm. Riverside firefighters began to establish a hose lay to contain the fire, but erratic winds pushed the fire to the east where it burned into heavier fuels. Additional resources were requested to fight the fire, including 5 engines from San Bernardino County Fire as well as helicopters and hand crews from Cal Fire as part of a mutual threat response on the border of The City of Riverside, and the City of Jurupa Valley. The fire threatened a homeless encampment in the river bottom with several homeless subjects fleeing the area as the fire approached. Forward progress was stopped at 10.5 acres. One firefighter sustained a minor injury when he hyperextended his knee. Riverside Firefighters will be mopping up the fire through the night and should have the blaze completely contained by noon on October 30th
