Current Situation
On Sunday February 7, 2021 at 8:10 a.m., The City of Riverside Fire Department responded a first alarm structure assignment to the Mezcale Cantina located at 3737 Main Street for a report of a fire. Firefighters arrived on scene to find a stove on fire in the kitchen being held in check by a fire sprinkler system. Firefighters extinguished the fire and checked for extension. Firefighters had to use a sprinkler stop to initially stop the water flow and shut down the fire sprinkler system. Firefighters spent the next two hours performing water removal from the restaurant.
Riverside County Environmental Health responded to the incident to inspect the kitchen and to work with the owner on getting the restaurant re-open today. Due to Mezcale Cantina being attached to California State owned building “CAL TOWERS”, CHP responded to the incident as a state representative and building maintenance to institute fire watch until the fire sprinkler system was placed back in service.
The loss is estimated at $10,000 with a save of $30,000,000. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries.
