Current Situation
The City of Riverside Fire Department responded to a report of structure fire in a single story single family residence. While in route there was smoke showing from a distance and the 911 call center received several reports for possible structure fire. Upon arrival on the scene of a small single story single family residence there was heavy smoke showing from the attic area and the living quarters appeared to be clear. It was a working attic fire. Crews arrived on scene initiated an aggressive fire attack in the attic and salvage of their personal belongings.
We were able to salvage as much of the homeowners belongings as possible and extinguish the blaze in a timely manner. A SAVE card was issued to the family due to the extensive damage in the structure. Due to the damage of the structure there was 3 adults and 2 children displaced. Red Cross was notified and they notified the owner of the residence to give them assistance.
Investigator 1 was on scene and conducted the investigation. The wall heater was being repaired yesterday and through part of the evening. During the night the family smelled an odor. This morning a neighbor came over and advised the occupant of the attic fire. The cause of the fire was possibly a faulty wall heater.
After an extensive overhaul and salvage operation crews were able to pick up their equipment and return to service
The home was handed over to the homeowner.
There were no firefighters injuries during this incident.
