Update #2:
On August 9, 2021 at 9:32 p.m., The City of Riverside Fire Department responded a first alarm structure fire assignment to the 2900 block of 5th Street. Firefighters arrived to discover a building half involved in fire with reports of a homeless occupants leaving the structure. A defensive fire attack was set-up along with a primary search of the structure that was not involved in fire with no occupants found. A second alarm was requested to the incident.
Firefighters held the fire to the building of origin and were unable to extinguish the fire due to the structural integrity being severely compromised to make access to the second floor. The fire was brought under control at 10:10 p.m. Fire watch is set-up and further action will be taken tomorrow morning. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries. A total of 27 firefighters and one chief officer responded to the incident. The fire cause is undetermined due to the extent of damage.

Update #1
On August 9th 2021, the City of Riverside Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 2900 block of 5th street. The first arriving company officer reported a working fire inside an abandonded commercial building at an unused recycling center. Battallion 1 assumed command of the Commerce Incident and requested a 2nd alarm to respond. The fire was placed under control at 2210 hours. There are not any reports of firefighter or civillian injuries. Commitment time for the resources on scene is 1 to 2 hours.
