SCOUT Incident Update August 26, 2021
The City of Riverside Fire Department was dispatched to a vegetation fire in the area of the Boy Scout Camp between Mission Inn Avenue and Fairmount Park. The first arriving unit found a well established fire burning in heavy vegetation with a moderate rate of spread being fed by gusty winds. Battalion 1 arrived on scene and requested a second and a third alarm as well as a mutual aid response from Cal Fire. Due to another large fire burning in the South end of the City, the request for additional resources came from Cal Fire and the neighboring Cities of Ontario, Rialto, Redlands, and Murrieta. In addition a water dropping helicopter from Cal Fire responded.
Firefighters made an aggressive attack on the fire while establishing structure protection on La Paz, Bubbling Well, and Dexter Drive. The fire's forward rate of spread was stopped at 2100 Hours. The fire is currently 60% contained within the burn area, and 90% of the perimeter is secured. Fire crews will be working throughout the night and over the course of the next several days to fully extinguish the fire due to difficult access and dense overgrown vegetation. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. There was no dollar loss in the burn area and there were no structures damaged or lost as a result of the fire. In addition there were no firefighter or civilian injuries.
