Current Situation
FINAL UPDATE:
On November 13, 2021 at 1821 hours, the City of Riverside Fire Department responded a first alarm vegetation fire assignment to the Old Boy Scout Camp for a vegetation fire. Battalion 1 arrived to discover a ¼ acre vegetation fire burning in light to heavy fuels with no rate of spread. Due to the ember casting from non-native palm trees, density of vegetation, no fire hydrants and amount of work a second alarm assignment was requested.
Firefighters were hampered with ingress due to vehicles illegally parking next to the gate that enters into the Santa Ana River Bike Path. Firefighters contained the fire to .35 acres and were on scene for several hours overhauling and establishing a fire perimeter line.
During the operation, the Scout IC heard a gun-shot in the area of the fire. A safety check was performed and all personnel were accounted for. We could not find the source of the gun-shot.
The cause of the fire will be homeless human related.
There were no firefighter or civilian injuries.
