Current Situation
On February 2nd, 2022, the Riverside Fire Department responded to California Baptist University for a report of a tree that fell over and landed on a building. When fire department crews arrived, they found a large pine tree had broken off at the trunk and caused moderate damage to a two-story dormitory building. A search of the rooms was completed, and all occupants were out of the structure prior to our arrival. The Riverside Building and Safety Department responded to the scene to evaluate the structure’s integrity. 17 students were displaced from their dorms. Three people were inside the building at the time of the incident.
California Baptist University is providing alternate housing arraignments for the displaced students. A contractor was also on scene to remove the tree pending the findings of the Building and Safety official. There were not any firefighter or civilian injuries reported.
