Current Situation
On Sunday, March 26, 2023, at 9:35 a.m., The City of Riverside Fire Department responded a first alarm structure fire assignment to the 3800 block of for a residential structure. Firefighters arrived on scene to find a room and contents fire extending through the house. Firefighters performed fire attack coordinated with vertical ventilation and a primary search. Firefighters held the fire to the two bedrooms and kept the fire out of the attic space. The primary search was all clear of occupants and family pets. The occupants were able to escape the fire prior to the fire department arrival.
During the fire attack operation, the main water line on Lofton Place broke disabling the fire hydrant and the fire attack crew ran out of water after the fire was knocked down. The engineers rapidly discovered the problem and quickly moved the other two fire engines into place using their water tank water to supply the primary fire engine on fire attack. Each fire engine carries 500 gallons of water. The fire attack crew and personnel operating on the inside of the structure were safe due to their aggressive fire attack knocking down the fire prior to water main break.
The probable cause of the fire is electrical, accidental in nature. The damage to the residence was $200,000 with a save of $300,000. There are five displaced residents, four adults and one child. Red Cross will be assisting the displaced residents. A California SAVE Card was issued to the main resident.
City of Riverside Public Utilities is on scene assessing the damage and preparing to fix the water main. There are currently 27 residential houses without water. For information on the water outage, please contact Riverside Public Utilities.
There were no firefighter or civilian injuries.
