Current Situation
The City of Riverside Fire department responded to a structure reported at the 5200 block of El Cerrito, the Canyon Crest Views Apartments. Fire department crews arrived on scene and found heavy smoke coming from a third floor window of an apartment unit. Canyon command was established and crews initiated an aggressive attack on the fire. A primary search was completed and we confirmed that all occupants safely evacuated the apartment. The fire was contained to the kitchen area on the first floor of the apartment living space. The cause of the fire was determined accidental due to unattended cooking on a stove. There were not any civilian or firefighter injuries reported. American Red Cross was notified for two displaced adults. Once all the hazards were mitigated, the scene was transferred to the property management company.
