Current Situation
On Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 4:18 p.m., The City of Riverside Fire Department dispatched a first alarm structure fire assignment to reports of a residence on fire in the 1300 block of Melville. A passerby in a vehicle noticed smoke coming from the attic space of the residential structure and called 911. Firefighters arrived on scene to find a working attic fire. Firefighters coordinated fire attack with roof operations along with salvage operations of protecting the contents of the structure. There were no occupants in the structure upon search.
Neighbors were able to call the homeowner and the homeowner returned to the house. The probable cause of the fire was an attic fan. The fire was contained to the attic space. There was minimal water and smoke damage to the interior of the structure. The property loss is estimated at $100,000. The estimated save is $550,000. There was minimal content loss. The utilities to the structure were secured. There were no displaced residents at this time as they are coordinating with their insurance company to restore power to the structure to isolate the attic fan.
There were no civilian or firefighter injuries.
