Current Situation
The City of Riverside Fire Department responded to a reported horse that had fallen into the Gage canal. The HART Team (Heavy Animal Rescue Team) responded to the incident to find a horse and the rider in the canal. The horse had attempted to get out of the canal and fallen back in causing minor injuries to the animal. A plan was created to use a crane to hoist the animal out of the canal. For this to occur the animal must be sedated so a veterinarian was requested to respond. Once the crane and the Vet had arrived, the Veterinarian began the sedation process while the Rescue Team placed the appropriate rigging on the animal so that he could be lifted to safety. Once the animal was back on the ground the horse was further treated by the Veterinarian and eventually released back to the owner. The horse and its owner were both pleased to have the horse back on terra firma.
