Current Situation
On 4/29/2024 at 1801, the City of Riverside Fire Department was dispatched to a reported vegetation fire in the 2300 block of Madison Avenue/ Pontoosuc Ave. The first arriving unit found approximately 1.5 acres of grass burning with a direct threat to multiple houses in the area. A second alarm was dispatched at that time. Firefighters on scene deployed hose lines at multiple locations within the incident and were able to save all the threatened homes without any damage. The total acreage of the fire was 2.5 with no loss of property and no injuries to firefighters of civilians. The cause of the fire was undetermined after investigation, though witnesses heard an explosion in the area just prior to the fire starting.
