Current Situation
On Friday September 6, 2024, at 9:07 p.m., The City of Riverside Fire Department responded a first alarm structure fire assignment to the 1600 Block of Mathews St. Firefighters arrived on scene to discover a bedroom fire with extension into the attic space. Firefighters performed an aggressive fire attack holding the fire to the bedroom and attic space. Occupants of the residence evacuated the house prior to our arrival. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries.
The house was left not habitable. There were to displaced adults and one family pet because of the fire. Both adults refused Red Cross services and were seeking shelter with family.
The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical after investigation.
Riverside Public Utilities secured the power to the residence by pulling the meter.
