(Recent updates are posted at the top of the Current Situation)

At 1127 on 9/11/2024 the City of Riverside Fire Department received reports of smoke coming from one of the theater screens at the historic Van Buren Drive-In.  The first arriving unit found a working fire inside the theater screen building with heavy smoke coming from all sides.  Fire crews quickly made entry inside the building and were able to hold the fire to one portion of a storage area inside the screen.  The majority of the theater screen remains intact with only smoke damage.  The Department's arson investigation unit arrived and found the cause of the fire to be undetermined.  There were no firefighter or civilian injuries.
