    Update #1 - FINAL

On January 19, 2025, at approximately 6:48 AM, the City of Riverside Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 24-Hour Fitness. Upon arrival, crews detected a burning electrical odor, observed multiple tripped breakers, and noticed flickering interior lights. As firefighters investigated, additional reports indicated that several businesses within the complex were experiencing similar electrical issues.

During the response, Riverside Public Utilities confirmed they were addressing a recent power outage and ongoing power fluctuations in the area.

To ensure the safety of the building and its occupants, fire crews utilized the main power switch to disconnect electricity to the complex. The property manager was notified and advised to arrange for an electrician to inspect the electrical system before any power could be restored.

The complex was placed on fire watch and turned over to the building’s occupants, on-site security, and the property manager.

A total of two Engines, one Truck, and one Battalion Chief were on scene for approximately one hour. There were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters.

    Initial Report

The businesses in the Madison Square Shopping Plaza located in the 3500 Block of Madison are experiencing lights flickering off and on along with alarm panels in several different businesses in trouble mode.

Battalion 2 is the Madison Incident Commander.  RPU is responding to the incident to assist in troubleshooting.  Currently no fire in the structures.
