City of Riverside Participates in Amateur Radio Field Day

The City of Riverside is participating in a public demonstration of emergency communications June 23-24, 2012 at Martha Mclean Anza Narrows Park, 5759 Jurupa Ave. Riverside CA. This annual "Field Day" is the climax of the week long "Amateur Radio Week" sponsored locally by the Riverside County Amateur Radio Association.

The demonstration will run continuously from 11 AM Saturday June 23 to 11 AM Sunday June 24. The public is invited to come and see ham radio's new capabilities and learn how to get their own FCC radio license before the next disaster strikes.

Also participating in the demonstration is the Riverside Fire Department?s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), the city's disaster volunteer response team. "Integrating volunteer disaster communications with the volunteer disaster response team is essential to citizen disaster preparedness,"says Fire Chief Steven H. Earley. The Riverside Fire Department has trained over 900 citizens in the 20-hour CERT Program since 2006.
