Fire Captain receives award from the American Legion Post 289

Fire Captain/Paramedic Michael B. Allen was recognized for his outstanding performance by the American Legion Post 289 today for his participation in the City of Riverside Fire Department's various programs and committees.

Captain Allen has been with the City of Riverside Fire Department since 2001. Captain Allen has 16 years of fire service experience, having been a paid call firefighter with the Riverside County Fire Department prior to the City of Riverside Fire Department. Captain Allen was also a paramedic for several private ambulance companies prior to working for the City of Riverside. Captain Allen has been the program manager for the small tool and equipment program for the last several years. Captain Allen also participates on the EMS committee, EMS continuous quality Improvement work group, records management committee, and is a department training cadre instructor.
Captain Allen's biggest challenge is the small tools and equipment program. Captain Allen's responsibilities include the purchase, maintenance, and replacement of the tools and equipment on all fire apparatus. This includes everything from screwdrivers to chainsaw and extrication equipment. His goal is to ensure our equipment is maintained properly which help ensures our equipment is reliable and leads to successful outcomes during emergency incidents. As part of this goal, he has collaborated for the purchase of additional equipment for a reserve truck company. He also developed an internal extrication tool maintenance program.
