Full Text:

On July 31st, 2012 at 11:15 p.m., fire units responded to a reported structure fire in the 4300 block of Linwood Place. Upon arrival of the first arriving unit, they reported a garage well involved in fire and initiated fire attack. During fire attack there were two explosions, resulting in ?large fireballs? producing flame lengths 40 to 80 feet high. The extinguishment operation became a defensive attack with an emphasis placed on exposure protection of the residence to the left of the burning garage. There was a separation of approximately eight feet between the buildings and crews were able to fully protect the adjacent residence.

The fire was brought under control within 23 minutes of the first arriving unit. A total of 7 fire units were assigned to the incident with a total of 19 personnel. One firefighter suffered a minor injury for heat blisters to the back of his hands. The firefighter was treated by fire personnel on scene. One civilian sustained 2nd degree burns to the right hand and was transported to Arrowhead Regional Hospital to the burn ward for treatment.

At this time the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Approximate damage to the structure and contents loss was $40,000.
