The City of Riverside Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 6321 Foster St on April 9, 2012 at approx. 7:04 in the evening. The first fire unit arrived on scene to find heavy smoke showing from the structure. Initial reports indicated that an elderly woman was living in the residence and might be trapped. Firefighters made an aggressive fire attack and simultaneously searched the residence for any occupants. One (1) one adult female was located in a bedroom area and determined to be deceased.
A total of (6) six Fire units and (25) twenty-five firefighters responded to the incident and successfully contained the fire to one room and hallway area. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Prior to the arrival of the Fire units, a neighbor and the caretaker of the deceased attempted to enter the residence and rescue the occupant. Both individuals were treated on scene and transported to area hospitals with smoke inhalation injuries.

The City of Riverside Fire Department reminds all residents of the importance of having working smoke detectors in their residence. Smoke detectors should be located in all sleeping areas, hallways and throughout the home as needed. Residents should check the operation of each smoke detector in their homes every month to insure the detectors are working properly.
