Pedestrian Mall Extension (Main Street)

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project generally entails the reconstruction of street improvements on Main Street from Tenth Street to Eleventh Street in order to extend the existing pedestrian mall to Eleventh Street. The limits of the existing pedestrian mall is currently between Sixth Street and Tenth Street, so the proposed improvements will provide for improved walkability and connectivity between the Justice Center and the Raincross District in the downtown area.

The project removal limits are generally between the existing curb and gutter on both sides of Main Street between Tenth Street to Eleventh Street (an approximate 25,000 square foot area), to a depth of approximately 18 to 24 inches. New curb and gutter with bollards will be extended across Main Street on southerly side of Tenth Street and the northerly side of Eleventh Street to restrict vehicular access on Main Street between those limits with the exception for emergency response vehicles. Vehicular access will remain along Tenth Street and Eleventh Street crossing their intersections at Main Street.

In addition to the new curb, gutter, and bollards, the proposed improvements generally include modification of storm drain facilities for the proposed grading; modification of irrigation and landscaping within the bulb island areas only; installation of new colored asphalt consistent with the color scheme of the existing pedestrian mall; decorative seating with umbrellas for an informal public communal dining area; and other utility infrastructure as necessary for temporary special event uses. The existing parkways along Main Street including the concrete sidewalk, light fixtures, and landscape areas will remain for pedestrian use.

PROJECT LOCATION: The project is located on Main Street between Tenth St. and Eleventh St.
