Riverside, CA – On Monday, June 11, 2001, Mrs. Marie Fritts, owner of Fritts Ford of Riverside, presented the Riverside Police Department with $8,000 for the purchase of a new police canine to be named "Fritz" in honor of her late husband Mr. Rick Fritts.

Several members of the police department, including two canine teams, attended the afternoon ceremonies at Fritts Ford. Canine officers Mears and Jaekel conducted canine team training demonstration for those in attendance.

The police department will utilize Fritts Fords’ contribution to both purchase and train a new police canine. The process of acquiring a suitable and well-trained police dog is extensive. It will be some time before "Fritz" is brought to the United States, familiarized with his handler, and assigned to work the streets of Riverside. The time and attention given to selecting an appropriate dog and handler is well spent and serves to ensure the quality of service provided to the community.

Both the Fritts Ford family and the Riverside Police Department look forward to the addition of "Fritz" to our current canine unit.
