Man Shot at Gas Station



Riverside, Ca- At approximately 12:25 PM, on Saturday, August 06, 2005, the Riverside Police Dispatch Center received reports of an assault with a deadly weapon at the Chevron gas station located at 2658 University Avenue. As officers were dispatched to the call, new reports of a gunshot victim lying in the street in front of the gas station began to come in. When officers arrived, they found a black male victim who had been shot once in the head. He was lying in the eastbound lanes of University.


The victim was a passenger in a car leaving the gas station when he and the other occupants heard noises outside of the car. The victim opened the door and looked out. He was struck by a gunshot from behind the car. Another motorist who was eastbound on University struck the victimís car as it left the driveway. The victim fell from the car as it drove away. The car was located several blocks away and all of the occupants were located by other officers.


The victim is of Nigerian descent and is a resident of Oklahoma. His condition is listed as very critical. He and the other occupants were in Southern California for a gathering of people from Nigeria. At this point, there is little information regarding the perpetrator(s) of this crime. Riverside Police are looking for a silver or gray Dodge Pick-Up with Hispanic male occupants.
