Police Officers Injured After Vehicle Pursuit

Riverside, Ca- At approximately 1:20 am, Riverside Police Department Officers attempted to stop a newer model Audi in the area of Iowa Street and University Avenue for traffic violations. The Audi failed to stop and the officers pursued the vehicle north on Iowa Street with the lights and siren activated on the patrol car. The Audi continued north on Iowa Street and subsequently failed to negotiate a right turn where Iowa Street begins to Parallel the 215 Freeway in an unincorporated area of Riverside County. The Audi overturned and crashed through the fence onto the northbound traffic lanes of the 215 Freeway and came to rest upside down. The pursuing police unit also crashed through the same fence, overturned and came to rest upside down south of the suspect vehicle with the two officers trapped inside.

The suspect attempted to flee on foot but was quickly captured by responding officers. Assisting officers helped the officers out of their patrol car.

American Medical Response Paramedics responded. Both officers were transported to Riverside Community Hospital where they were treated for their injuries and later released. The suspect was transported to the same hospital and treated for non-life threatening head injuries.

The suspect will be charged with felony evading. Additional charges may be filed at a later time. He has been identified as Jarod Ross Collier, 27 years old. He is from the City of San Bernardino.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information helpful to this investigation is urged to contact The Riverside Police Department Traffic Investigations Division at (951) 353-7100.
